Privacy
In short: Orbit MD doesn't track you, and your content never comes to us.

Who we are
Orbit MD is made by John Spurgin, a sole trader in the UK, who is responsible for the personal information described here. Questions about privacy:support@orbitmarkdown.com.
The app
- Your sites and content stay between you and your git host. Orbit MD works on your computer and talks to your repository (GitHub, GitLab, …) with your own git login. None of it is sent to us.
- Licence keys. When you enter a key, Orbit MD sends it toPolar with your computer's name, so Polar can check it and count the computers it's on; removing the licence tells Polar the same way. The key, and the name and email it was bought with, are then kept on your computer — Orbit MD doesn't check them again.
- Signing in with GitHub (Orbit 1.1 and later, if you choose to). Orbit talks to GitHub directly with your sign-in: to show who you're signed in as (your GitHub name and picture), to check what you can do on each site, and to open, update and publish the sites you've added Orbit MD to. The sign-in is kept in your computer's Keychain and nowhere else — none of it comes to us. Sign out in Orbit, or revoke it on GitHub (Settings ▸ Applications).
- Update checks. When it opens, Orbit MD asks GitHub for the latest release number. Nothing about you or your sites is sent; GitHub sees an ordinary web request, including your IP address.
- No analytics, crash reports or tracking of any kind.
Buying
Pro and Team are sold by Polar, our merchant of record. Polar handles payment, tax and receipts, underPolar's privacy policy. We see your name, email address and what you bought, so we can help with your licence; we never see your card details.
This website
- No cookies, no analytics and no third-party scripts — so there's no cookie banner.
- It's hosted by Netlify, which keeps standard server logs (such as IP addresses and the pages requested) to run and protect the site.
- If you use the contact form, your name, email and message go to us through Netlify, and we use them only to reply.
Email to our orbitmarkdown.com addresses is delivered to a Google (Gmail) mailbox. We use what you send only to answer you.
Why we use it, and for how long
- Your purchase and licence — to provide what you bought. Kept for as long as tax law requires (about six years).
- Messages and contact-form replies — because you asked us something (our legitimate interest in answering). Kept for up to two years, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.
- Server logs, update checks and GitHub sign-in — to run the site and the app safely, and to do what you ask Orbit to do on GitHub (legitimate interest; the sign-in is your choice). Kept by Netlify and GitHub under their own policies; the sign-in itself only on your computer.
Polar, Netlify, GitHub and Google are based in or use services in the United States; they protect personal information moved there with the safeguards UK law requires. We never sell your information or use it for advertising.
Your rights
You can ask for a copy of what we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, limit how we use it, stop using it, or send it to you in a usable format. Emailsupport@orbitmarkdown.com. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your information, you can complain to the UK's Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk).
