Terms
Using Orbit MD, and buying Pro or Team.
Last updated 9 October 2026.
Who we are
Orbit MD is made by John Spurgin, a sole trader in the UK ("we"). Emailsales@orbitmarkdown.com about buying andsupport@orbitmarkdown.com for help.
Free
- Anyone may use Orbit MD free on one site at a time, with every feature.
- Teams: if more than five people in your organisation edit with Orbit MD, we ask you to buy a Team pack for them — even if each of them only works on one site. It's how Orbit MD keeps being made.
- People editing their own organisation's site on Free, while an agency or freelancer works on it with a paid licence, are always fine.
Pro and Team licences
- A Pro licence is for one person, on up to two of their own computers. Please don't share Pro keys.
- A Team licence is one key for your organisation, used on one computer per seat. A seat can be moved to someone else: the old holder removes the licence on their computer, and the new one enters the key.
- Each key is activated on a computer once, online; the licence service counts the computers.
- Both are one-time payments. A licence never expires and covers every1.x update. A future major version may be a paid upgrade (discounted for owners); your 1.x licence keeps working either way.
- One licence covers every site generator Orbit MD supports.
Licences for your clients
- Agencies and developers may buy licences for their clients — for example as part of a website build. The licence then belongs to the client who uses it.
- A client editing their own single site needs no licence at all, however many sites you build or look after for them.
Buying and refunds
- Orders are handled by Polar, our reseller and merchant of record: they take payment, handle VAT and sales tax, and send your receipt and key. Your purchase is also covered byPolar's buyer terms; these terms cover your licence to use Orbit MD.
- If Orbit MD isn't right for you, ask for a refund within 14 days of buying — email sales@orbitmarkdown.com. A refunded key can't be activated again.
Orbit Extras
Pro and Team buyers get access to the private Orbit Extras repository while their licence is held. Its starter sites keep their original authors' licences, which are included with each one.
The software
- Orbit MD is licensed under the Functional Source License. It works on your computer with your own repositories; your sites and content are never sent to us.
- Orbit MD saves your changes through git, so earlier versions of your pages stay in your site's history. Please keep your repository hosted (GitHub, GitLab, …) or backed up — that's the copy we can't lose for you.
Our responsibility
- If you're a consumer, the law gives you rights — for example, that Orbit MD is as described and of satisfactory quality. Nothing in these terms affects those rights.
- If you're a business, we're not responsible for lost profits, lost business or lost data, and our total responsibility for anything to do with Orbit MD is limited to what you paid for your licence.
- Nothing in these terms limits responsibility that can't legally be limited — such as for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Changes and the law
- We may update these terms; the date at the top shows when. The terms in place when you bought apply to that purchase.
- These terms are under the law of England and Wales. If you're a consumer elsewhere in the UK, you can also use your own local courts.
