Orbit MD 1.1 adds Sign in with GitHub. Before it, opening a private site meant setting up the Mac’s own git login, usually in the Terminal. Now it takes a code and a click.
Signing in
Click Sign in with GitHub, enter the code Orbit shows on GitHub’s page, and approve it. Orbit can then open, update and publish the private sites you’ve added it to. The sign-in stays in your Mac’s Keychain, readable only by Orbit, and nothing is sent to us. Sign in with GitHub has the steps.
Your sites
Once you’re signed in, the start screen lists every site your sign-in can open, yours and your organisations’, ready to open with one click.
Roles from GitHub
Each person’s role on a site comes from their GitHub access. Approvers publish, editors ask to publish, and people with read-only access can look without changing anything. Developer tools appear for a site’s admins and maintainers. Who can do what explains the mapping.
Credit for edits
While you’re signed in, Orbit uses only your sign-in for GitHub sites, and your edits are credited to your GitHub account rather than to whatever git name is saved on the computer.
